Living In Fear – It Is Not Productive
If you listen to the news or our politicians, we should live in a constant state of fear. Our government just spent $800 billion in fear, because the politicians didn’t know what to do and were afraid of were the US was headed. If you don’t think it effects your life and your decisions, you are probably mistaken.
FEAR IS NOT A PRODUCTIVE WAY TO LIVE!
A few weeks back I wrote a guest post for Jeff at My Super Charged Life that explored seven different ways that fear can negatively impact your life and your decisions. Here is the article – Living in Fear – Too Much Baggage?
Click on over to face your fears and while you are at it check out a great blog. Here is a teaser :
He moved past the fear with knowledge and action and is now more powerful and more equipped to face the world. We don’t want him to stay in a state of fear and we don’t want to live in fear because it brings along with it too much baggage.
Let’s take of look at some of the downsides of fear so that we can examine our lives for them.
Avoidance
Fear causes us to avoid situations were we can fail, get hurt, be humiliated, be rejected, cause confrontation, or make mistakes, so we actively run in the opposite direction.
I could not agree more. There’s a certain fearlessness exhibited by successful people. It’s not to be confused with recklessness which is more of a negative trait. People who are fearless are willing to assert themselves and take measured risks without the fear of failure that paralyzes many people. If it doesn’t work out, they simply regroup and try again.
This is something I need to get a lot better at.
I think that we are all consumed by fear in one way or another. I am in constant fear about my family’s well being in this awful economy. I guess whats important is how you deal with your fear.
I believe fear is all right, as long as you don’t let it take over your life. Somehow, it allows you to think things through better. If you fear something, it will help you assess the situation and take calculated risks. However, it is also true that you need to pass that phase. Sometimes, you just have to do something out of faith.
true enough, we can never live our lives better if we live in fear. It holds us back.
I personally think fear is normal since we are not certain what’s going to happen tomorrow. It is a totally acceptable concept for a person to fear. However, most of the time it is something induced to us by people with power.Sometimes, we even loose our voice to speak the truth.
@Double Eagle – I think you make a great point about those who are fearlessness and success, although I think courage is a better description. It is acting despite fear and not knowing the outcome for most. If we wait until we aren’t afraid we most likely won’t do much of anything, especially as we are just learning to tackle our fears.
@Grog – How you deal with the fear is exactly the point that is were the battle needs to be won.
@Nicole – You nailed it. We need to act despite fear. Access the situation figure out how the fear is affecting you and push through.
@ Francesca – I agree fear seems to be natural, but it also seems to be a somewhat immature emotion and not at all empowering. The point is to not let other or negative emotions effect your decisions, and fill your life with things that inspire and motivate.
